Collaborative and Intelligent Translation Technologies

Speaker's Profile:

Guan Xinchao is Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Department of Translation of School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. As a professional translator, Professor Guan has devoted himself to the German-English-Chinese translation practices. As of now, the number of words of translation and proofreading in this field has reached 30 million. His main translation areas include marine engineering and shipbuilding (English), medical science (English), laws (German) and machine electricity (German). Meanwhile, Professor Guan has established various corpora, involving the English-Chinese parallel corpus of medicine and the English-Chinese parallel corpus of marine engineering. Over the past years and at present, Professor Guan has provided language service solutions for world-renowned enterprises, such as GL, Springer, HUAWEI and KPMG. Now, Professor Guan serves as Associate Professor and Master Supervisor of School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Professor Guan has taken charge of 3 national programs; published 15 papers, 3 monographs and 10 translations; and possessed 2 patents and 2 software copyrights.

Brief introduction:

This lecture consists of five parts. (1) The translation technology course centering on the MTI translation technology course of Shanghai Jiao Tong University will explain the scientific nature and rationality of its composition. (2) The technological cooperation is divided into the primary, vantage and advanced patterns, which are indispensable in translation and translation project management. (3) Intelligent translation involves two modes, which are the severest challenges confronted by translators so far. (4) Corpus technology includes such processes as linguistic data collection, cleaning, annotation, retrieval and data mining. (5) Corpus and Python application interpret the formative three-level system.
