Dr. Ying Zhu (朱鹰)
Associate Professor of Computer Science, Georgia State University
In this talk, I will give an overview of the current practice in game design and development in the US. The game design and development process is similar to software engineering but also has its unique challenges such as the integration of storytelling and artistic work with programming. Many people play games but not many understand the challenges game designers and game developers face. This talk is an attempt to shed some light on the other side of the gaming world. The main topics include game concept, game world, character development, game play, core mechanics, game AI, game engines, online games, and mobile games. I’ll also touch on some related topics such as psychology, storytelling, and gamification in the real world.
