From July 5 to 7, President Xu Fei, with other delegates invited by the Ministry of Education of China, attended Sino-Russian College Presidents Summit which took place at Moscow State University. Xu then paid a visit to Moscow State University of Railway Transport and Ural State University of Railway Transport.
At the event, China’s Vice Premier Liu Yandong was on hand to speak about China-Russia university cooperation and noted that the summit brought together more than 200 university presidents to discuss cooperation in education.
Liu, who was accompanied by Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, went on to say that university cultural exchanges play an important role for the two peoples and that, as university alliance grow, there are more students exchanges between the two and greater cooperation in running schools. These, Liu said, are the foundation of greater cooperation between China and Russia, which are in a critical period of reform and development and face difficult tasks.
Xu chaired the first session with the topic of The Initiative of One Belt One Road and Sino-Russian Universities Cooperation within the Framework of The Eurasian Economic Union. Presidents of eight Chinese and Russian universities shared their insights in terms of the models and achievements of Sino-Russian universities cooperation.
On July 6, Xu visited the Moscow State University of Railway Transport and met the Rector Boris A.Lievin. Lievin extended his sincere congratulation to the 120th anniversary of SWJTU and spoke highly of the activities organized to celebrate the great event. He put forward the initiative of jointly developing high-speed rail research center and Laboratory.
“Alexander Misharin, the First-Vice-President of Russian Railways and Head of Skorostniye Magistrali, visited SWJTU last September, speaking highly of SWJTU’s huge advantages in high-level students training and technological innovation in high-speed rail,” said Xu.
Xu aslo discussed with Vladimir N.Glazkov, the Pro-Rector in charge of international relations. The cooperation in students exchange, academic materials sharing and laboratory and research platform development were expected to be carried out by both parties.
On July 7, Xu visited Ural State University of Railway Transport and met the President Galkin Aleksandr. The two parties reached the consensus to strengthen the talks in high-speed rail research, bilingual training and cultural exchange, devoting to the commitment of improving the transportation efficiency of both countries.
This visit will substantially accelerate the cooperation with Russian universities, further promoting the Internationalization Strategy and improving SWJTU’s international influence. Jiang Jiuwen, the Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, and Dr. Li Zizhong participated in this Russian visit.
