Dr. Hongjie Dai, the Academician of the National Academy of Sciences, the United States, was invited as Honorable Professor of SWJTU. The appointment ceremony was held at Jiuli campus last Friday.
Tom Nie, the President of SWJTU Alumni Association of Northern California, and Wang Shunhong, the Chairman of SWJTU, and Yan Qipeng, the Vice Chairman of SWJTU, and Wang Xiaoru, the Assistant President, as well as other representatives from SWJTU schools and research institutes participated in the event.
Hongjie Dai began his formal studies in physics at Tsinghua University in Beijing (B.S. 1989) and applied sciences at Columbia University (M.S. 1991). Following his doctoral work at Harvard University (Ph.D. 1994) and postdoctoral research at Rice University, he joined the Stanford faculty in 1997, and in 2007 was named J. G. Jackson and C. J. Wood Professor of Chemistry. He has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the AAAS and the National Academy of Sciences.
“On behalf of SWJTU, I would like to extend my sincerest welcome to Dr. Dai and it was our great honor to invite him to be one of us,” remarked Wang, “we especially appreciate his great contribution to the scientific development across the world.” He firmly believed that the enrollment of Dai will give new impetus to the discipline development and personnel training within the area of chemistry science.
Dai paid amounts of attention to SWJTU’s development and was willing to promote the cooperation and exchanges between SWJTU and American academic circles, helping SWJTU continue to further the academic influence in the united states.
