Topic:An introduction to structural integrity assessment in accordance with BS 7910

Abstract:
Engineering critical assessment(ECA) specifically addresses the significance of crack-like flaws that might be present in welds or components. It makes use of fracture mechanics concepts. The assessments cover many potential failure modes such as fracture, plastic collapse, fatigue, creep crack growth, etc. The method is widely used in many industries to either determine the maximum tolerable flaw size or performing fitness-for-service assessment.
BS 7910, a British Standard, provides guidance to methods for assessing the acceptability of flaws in metallic structures. This talk provides a brief introduction to TWI and structural integrity assessment in accordance with BS 7910 principles.
